Thing 174
Ian Buruma’s “Conversations with John Schlesinger”.
I think this was a gift from my one-time mentor Chad Sipkin.
Unfortunately I don’t think I ever read more than a few pages and then put it back on the (now sold) bookshelf.
With the new babe arriving, we disassembled and sold the bookshelf, so a lot of our books either went into storage or are ending up on this list.
Thing 173
Film Directing- Cinematic Motion book.
I had this book during college and used it then. Â Enter the digital video revolution and the ubiquitous hand-held camera and everything in this book goes pretty much out the window. Â A shame if you ask me. Â It’s so refreshing watching something made today that has actually been set up and staged. Â So infrequent….
So this might be useless to today’s young movie maker, but I’d still recommend it for getting your chops and learning fundamentals.
Thing 172
Croakies eyeglasses holder.
I don’t even know if Croakies exists anymore…
This might seem like a little thing, but I’ve had these since early high school. Â It actually pains me a little to let these go, as they’ve held my glasses on for decades, and never ever failed. Â They are like a security blanket for my eyes. Â But they have begun to unravel and smell (never washed them..), and I think it’s time to move on.
Sad to see you go, old friend. Â Thank you for the years of service.
